New alliance unites Manchester, Chinese health experts
July 2013
SHARING OPTIONS:

MANCHESTER, United Kingdom—A formal memoranda of collaboration was signed in late May between the University of Manchester, Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Peking University Health Science Center. This alliance will include training schemes for genetic counselors, doctors and diagnostic scientists in Manchester and Beijing as well as regular knowledge-sharing exchanges, and will set the foundations for large-scale studies and further genomic research into conditions such as cancer, inherited heart disorders, blindness and cleft lip and palate.

"Many answers to how we can prevent, accurately diagnose disease and personalize treatments lay in genetic research, so it is really important that we are collaborating with our Chinese partners in this important area," said Prof. Ian Jacobs, dean of the faculty of Medical and Human Sciences at the University of Manchester.
