Synthetic Genomics acquires Febitís genomics portfolio
November 2012
SHARING OPTIONS:

LA JOLLA, Calif.óPrivately held Synthetic Genomics Inc. (SGI) has announced the purchase, for an undisclosed amount, of worldwide rights to three families of patents and patent applications related to synthetic genomic technologies. The patent portfolio was purchased from Febit Holding GmbH (which recently went through a name change to become the Comprehensive Biomarker Center), and related equipment and technical support were also purchased. Included in the portfolio are methods for highly parallelized, low-cost oligonucleotide synthesis and retrieval of sequence-validated DNA, which combined have the potential to significantly decrease the cost of DNA synthesis for the synthetic biology community. Among the patent families purchased by SGI are seven issued U.S. and European patents for methods to produce polymers and methods for the retrieval of sequence-verified synthetic nucleic acids following assembly on solid supports. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
