NHGRI prepares for reorganization
October 2012
SHARING OPTIONS:

BETHESDA, Md.—The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) of the U.S. National Institutes of Health will undergo a significant reorganization, which will go into effect Oct. 1, the start of the 2013 fiscal year. The reorganization will see the NHGRI's Extramural Research Program divided into four new divisions: the Division of Genome Sciences, the Division of Genomic Medicine, the Division of Extramural Operations and the Division of Genomics and Society. The Office of Policy, Communications and Education will become the Division of Policy, Communications and Education, and the Office of Administrative Management will become the Division of Management.

"The mission of the institute has dramatically evolved from the singular focus on the Human Genome Project … NHGRI needs an organizational structure concordant with this expanded mission," said Dr. Eric D. Green, director of the NHGRI.
