HANGZHOU, China—A new study published recently online in Nature Communications details the efforts of researchers from Sichuan Agricultural University and LC Sciences, who have reported the miRNAome in adipose and muscle tissues from pigs. The research offers an epigenomic source for obesity prediction and prevention—and given that pigs match humans well in terms of proportional organ sizes, cardiovascular systems and metabolic features, a better model for human obesity research. A team led by researchers at the Institute of Animal Genetics and Breeding at Sichuan Agricultural University used a pig model to investigate the association between epigenetic regulators and obesity, generating a genome-wide DNA methylation map in addition to miRNA expression and gene expression maps for adipose and muscle tissues.
